From Takeout zip to readable mail

Find the .mbox inside your export

Google Takeout puts it in the Mail folder, usually named All mail Including Spam and Trash.mbox, or one file per Gmail label. Thunderbird and Apple Mail exports produce .mbox files directly. Drop the file exactly as it is.

It opens like an email client, locally

Messages split on their envelope lines and index as they load. Browse, read, and search by sender, subject or any word in the body. Everything happens in the tab; the mailbox never crosses the network.

Take out what you need

Save any single message free. One payment unlocks the whole mailbox as a combined PDF, individual .eml files, or a CSV index, and the unlock is remembered for this file in this browser forever.

Straight answers

Where is the .mbox in my Google Takeout?

Unzip the Takeout archive and look inside the Mail folder: the file is usually called All mail Including Spam and Trash.mbox, or one .mbox per Gmail label if you selected labels. Drop that file here as it is. You do not need to convert or rename it first.

Is my mailbox uploaded to your servers?

No. The mailbox is parsed by JavaScript running in your browser tab, and the only network request this page makes is to Stripe for payment. A full Gmail export is years of private life in one file. That is exactly why this tool keeps it on your machine. Open your browser's developer tools and watch the network tab while it opens: your mail is not in the traffic.

My mbox is huge. Will it open?

The file is held in your browser tab's memory while open. Up to roughly 4 to 8 GB works in a typical modern browser; beyond that the tab may run out of memory. If your Takeout produced one giant file, re-export with specific Gmail labels selected to get smaller per-label files, or narrow the date range.

What does the PDF export look like?

A clean, readable transcript per message: the full header block (from, to, date, subject), the message text, and a list of any attachments. Built for records, legal use and printing. It is not a pixel-perfect screenshot of HTML styling, and heavily designed marketing mail reads as text.

I have loose .eml files or an Outlook PST instead.

Same tool, different doors: loose saved emails have their own page at EML to PDF, and whole Outlook archives (PST, OST) plus Outlook for Mac (OLM) open on the email archive page. Reading is free everywhere; the unlock works the same way.

What shows up on my card statement?

WEDGEWORKS* EMAILKIT. FileQuiet is made by Wedgeworks. $29, one time, per mailbox file. No subscription, nothing recurring.
