Straight answers

What can you recover — and what can't you?

We recover cell values: text, numbers, dates and booleans, sheet by sheet, up to the point of corruption. Formulas are replaced by their last calculated values. Formatting (colors, column widths, number formats) is often lost — the data is the point. If a region of the file was overwritten or destroyed, that data is gone; we tell you exactly which rows we recovered and never pretend otherwise. Password-protected files are out: we don't break encryption.

Is my file really not uploaded anywhere?

Really. The repair engine is JavaScript running in your browser tab. The only network requests this page makes are to Stripe for payment — open your browser's developer tools, watch the network tab while repairing, and you'll see your file never leaves. That's the whole reason FileQuiet exists: other repair services make you upload your spreadsheet to their servers.

What if you can't recover my data?

Then you don't pay. The preview comes first, always — if we can't show you your data, there is no pay button. And if a downloaded file ever doesn't match its preview, email us within 14 days for a full refund, no questions.

What shows up on my card statement?

My file is actually a .xls, or came from a web app export — will this work?

Usually, yes. Legacy .xls workbooks are converted to modern .xlsx. Files that are secretly HTML or CSV renamed to .xlsx (a common web-app trick that Excel chokes on) are detected and converted properly — the preview will tell you what your file really was.

I paid but my browser lost the file (private mode). Am I stuck?

No. Drop the same file again — your payment is remembered by this browser and the download unlocks without another charge. Because the file never touches our servers, we can't store it for you; the repair simply runs again locally. If anything at all goes sideways, email support@shotfold.com with your Stripe receipt and we'll make it right.
